DesignHOME Fitness Studios stimulates your desire to head to the gym through inspiring design concepts including well-planned layouts, impactful aesthetics, music and lighting. Home gyms are designed to be the place you want to go, not the place you have to go.
We’ve crafted homes with everything from indoor basketball courts and weight training gyms to yoga studios. Whether you prefer a simple setup with just a few machines or a fully equipped gym with professional-grade gear, we work closely with our clients to design a space that’s both functional and inviting. Here’s how the planning begins.
Layout Comes First
The first step is to plan the layout. Every client will allocate space to their home gym according to their personal needs, so the size and location of the room will differ greatly.
Supporting Your Workout Routine
If your workout routine emphasizes free movement and flexibility—things like yoga and pilates—we’ll create something bright that emphasizes spaciousness. This doesn’t mean you need excessive space for this style of gym, but it does dictate the design.
If you’re aiming for a more comprehensive setup and one that encourages variety, we’ll set up zones. Designated areas of the space for cardio, strength training, stretching, and so on. This creates a natural flow for circuit training or HIIT workouts.
We design these zones while keeping in mind the surroundings for that portion of your routine. You want your cardio to feel airy and invigorating, with a view of your favorite outdoor spaces—not staring at a wall. When strength training, you’ll need properly cushioned flooring and thoughtfully-placed mirrors to check your form.
Choose Equipment You Can Grow With
Focus on equipment that you’re not going to outgrow tomorrow. The fitness space shouldn’t just support your current routine, but where you hope to be next year. A selection of classic exercise equipment (like a treadmill, free weights, and a bench) can support years of strength gains.
Setting the Right Tone
Selecting the right materials is crucial for both practicality and aesthetics. Durable flooring, like rubber or cork, provides a stable surface for heavy equipment and high-impact activities while being easy to maintain.
When it comes to colors, think about what motivates you. Soft, neutral tones can create a meditative & soothing atmosphere, while bolder colors might energize you. Lighting should be functional but adjustable, so you can have bright lights for intense workouts and softer lighting for relaxation or cooldowns.
Convenience = Motivation
Your home gym should beckon you. We’ll accomplish that primarily by setting the mood, carefully planning the layout, and curating the right equipment. But little features can go a long way in making your workout more appealing.
Integrated speakers make putting on your favorite playlist or a guided meditation that much easier. A tucked-away refrigerator for electrolyte-rich drinks or frozen towels can make recovery a therapeutic experience.
If you enjoy following along with video workouts, a mounted TV at eye level can make virtual training sessions easy and enjoyable.
